All about energy grounding and how to ground your energy.
So, if you’re reading this, you’re either searching for ways to ground your energy, or you’ve heard people talking about being ‘grounded’, or ‘energy grounding’ but don’t really understand what they’re talking about and have begun exploring! Welcome! 🙂 Hopefully this blog should help you to understand what energy grounding is all about and how to ground your energy.
So .. What is energy grounding?
Grounding is a term used in the holistic/spiritual world, very often when people are discussing meditation techniques or during energy healing. “It’s important to be grounded.” This is all well and good if you know what they mean and how to do it! It’s also relevant in our day to day lives when we are affected by our emotions, and I’ll tell you why shortly.
We call the process of connecting yourself energetically to the earth, grounding yourself. If your feet are physically on the ground, you’d think that you’re connected to the earth, right? Well, maybe and maybe not. Your aura or energy system (the electromagnetic field that surrounds us all, sometimes called Chi or Prana) may not be connected at all. This will leave you in a slightly altered state.
When we become emotional, perhaps angry or upset, our energy body or aura disconnects with the earth and we become un-grounded. We literally lift ourselves out of a situation. When we meditate, we have a tendency to let go of the physical reality and this too, can lead to you becoming very un-grounded indeed. An energy healing treatment will often un-ground people and whilst this feels great at the time, again, it’s not a good idea to go back into the world in an altered state.
What happens if you’re un-grounded?
When you have become un-grounded you can’t focus in the same way you usually do. You are literally more disconnected from this reality and therefore, don’t respond in quite the way you usually would. Your thinking becomes fuzzy, and you may feel light headed, dizzy or floaty. Sometimes, if you’re extremely un-grounded, you might feel nauseous as well. You may also find you have difficulty in making conversation i.e. you can’t say words correctly or can’t think of what to say. It’s definitely time to do some energy grounding!
Now, whilst it may feel quite nice to feel floaty, you should never drive a car or do anything that requires your full attention while you’re un-grounded as your thinking and reaction times may be slower plus your awareness isn’t what it should be.
If you have meditated on your own and become very un-grounded, on occasion it can be difficult to fully connect with the earth and this reality. (It’s best in the beginning to meditate with a group or use a recording that brings you back into this reality and grounds your energy.)
If you have had an energy healing treatment, it is the responsibility of a fully trained healer, to ensure that the client is fully grounded before they leave the treatment room.
So .. You find yourself feeling un-grounded and depending on how un-grounded you’ve become, there are various ways to bring you back to earth!
How to ground – 4 basic energy grounding techniques and tips
Use your imagination
- Visualise your body as a tree; imagine you have roots coming out from the soles of your feet and/or from the base chakra at the coccyx.
- Send these roots as far down and out into the core of the earth as you can, imagining all the terrain on the way down. Remember a tree has tap roots that go a long way down, use these to go into the core and the other roots to anchor you into the earth around you.
- Once you have reached the centre of the earth, imagine you have anchored your energy there, either by wrapping your energy around the core or by sending out fibrous roots.
- Open your eyes, you should feel different and your feet may feel warm or, you may be able to feel them on the ground – perhaps for the first time!
Most people don’t tend to need to be told to eat chocolate, but in this instance, chocolate really can do the trick! If we eat something like chocolate, the pure deliciousness of it, engages all the physical senses as our body reacts to the chocolate taste and sweetness, grounding your energy back into your body. (Obviously if chocolate isn’t something you can eat as part of your normal diet, find something that is particularly delicious that you can eat.) Generally speaking, eating pretty much anything is going to help you to ground, particularly root vegetables, it’s just the tastier it is the better as it will engage your senses all the more.
Use your Imagination
If you’re having difficulty getting yourself grounded, you can also:
- Imagine you are wearing concrete boots.
- Imagine you are walking across a particularly muddy field, see and feel your feet getting stuck in the mud.
- Imagine your feet are like sponges and are soaking up the earth into them until you become part of the earth.
Water is very grounding, and a simple glass of water can help bring you back into your body. It’s always a good idea to have water with you when you meditate to sip once you open your eyes.
How do I know when I’m grounded?
You’ll know when you’re grounded again because:-
- Your head will feel clearer and you’ll be able to think properly and talk properly.
- You may be aware of your feet tingling or feeling warm/hot.
- You feel more balanced and fully present/awake.
Remember, we all get un-grounded at times, not just if we’re meditating or having energy work done. Our emotions play a big part in how grounded we are in our daily lives.
If you are new to energy healing work, meditation or are a sensitive or just beginning to open up psychically, then part of your growth is about developing your awareness and knowing when you are and are not grounded. Where energy grounding is concerned, it really is a case of practice, practice, practice. If you are fairly new to all things spiritual, it can be an exciting time but one where it pays to learn a few of the basics. Hopefully, this has gone some way to helping you to do just that.
